Fijian Massage – Rockford, IL

Fijian Massage is a unique technique in which the therapist uses his/her bare feet versus hands to do the work while their client relaxes on a floor mat. Using gravity, leverage, and body weight the broad surface of the therapist’s foot can deliver the deepest of pressure and amazing tissue engagement causing quick endorphin release for a wonderfully relaxing effect. Because of the size of the tool being used (the foot) therapists are able to access more muscles at the same time enabling them to deliver depth like no other massage.

Fijian Massage does not include walking on the client’s back.

Fijian massage can often provide deeper pressure than other types of massage that utilize hands; and therefore this type of massage is different from what most people have already experienced.

About Fijian Massage Therapy

Fijian Massage’s roots come from Fiji. An American, Lolita Knight – the founder of Fijian Massage, came upon this while living between New Zealand and Fiji for close to 20 years. Fiji is comprised of over 400 islands and each island has some form of massage – some with their feet and some with their hands. Lolita learned this from a local doctor in the remote village of Kadavu. Techniques are handed down generation to generation, often being learned as children and given for free to help each other maintain their health. Fijian’s life style is very labor intensive: walking 5-10 miles a day, climbing coconut trees, swimming/fishing…with no social welfare, maintaining optimal physical health is imperative for survival. When villagers receive massage they lay on the ground or on thin woven mats and it is given in a quick vigorous and often painful way. Lolita has adapted this massage for a more western palate while still utilizing the basic techniques.
